Solar X-rays greatly influence ionospheric propagation characteristics. April 27 saw much more DX activity on 6m than usual, which correlates to solar X-ray activity near Earth, as seen at SpaceWeatherLive

During these high flux rates, operators saw larger-than-normal ranges for their transmissions.
